The Jewish Chronicle made the brave and generous decision to include in its latest edition an advert from the Disasters Emergency Committee seeking donations to support those struggling in Gaza.  This is simply a non political humanitarian appeal to help people in desperate need.  Sadly readers have complained and threatened to boycott the paper so the Jewish Chronicle has had to issue an apology.  Clearly, for now, a step too far yet this had the potential to be exactly the kind of radical generosity this world so urgently needs.

Meanwhile, give thanks for the work of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, founded by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said, and made up of Israelis, Palestinians, and other Arabs from around the Middle East – people who might consider the other an enemy but who through this wonderful orchestra have the opportunity to meet and hear each other’s narrative.  They are a beacon in a dark world; a sign that there is another way.
