Despite its apparent attraction being fearless is not so clever.  Those who claim to be fearless easily over reach themselves and bring on unintended consequences. Fear helps us understand the risks involved, to make a more considered response.  But whilst we are not called to be fearless, we are called to fear less.  We may not be ready to hug our enemy but we can at least smile at them.  We may not be ready to welcome the stranger into our home but we can shake them by the hand.  And when we learn to fear less our hearts melt a little; a little less critical, a little less angry – and a little more human and a little bit more as God intended our hearts to be.

Ask not that you become fearless but each day try to fear less.
