The Washington Post highlights the fact that since 1980, American troops have invaded, occupied or bombed 14 Muslim countries and that almost every time the interventions have created more problems than they have solved.

America, and indeed Britain, have never had such powerful, precise and technologically efficient weapons and yet the lesson we still have to learn is that all this output of might does not achieve the outcomes we desire.  Shock and awe is not enough to win the peace.

Biblically peace is more often than not linked to justice.  It is only when we tackle, injustice, inequality, poverty and hunger that we will achieve the outcomes we desire for our world.  The lesson of recent interventions is that ever more refined weapon systems do not bring peace.  Perhaps if we were less confident in our might we would find better way to resolve conflicts and learn the all important art of peacemaking.
